Iron Country: A History Hike

Please check the event website before attending, to verify the details and make sure there's no change.

August 18, 2018 @ 3:00 pm

Free

Long before it was a campground and scenic state park, French Creek and the surrounding woods all belonged to the Hopewell Furnace. What made this area so valuable for the iron making process?

Join the park naturalist on this hike from the campground down to the Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site. Along the way we will look at the remnants of the ironmaking process on the forest landscape and consider how it has affected our modern park.

We will arrive at Hopewell in time to join their 3:45pm presentation on the moulding and casting process and then take a short tour of the village before heading back up to the campground.
