The World is Our Classroom

Hear author Cindy Ross speak at Firefly Bookstore. Cindy is the author of six books on adventuring in the outdoors, including “Scraping Heaven – A Family’s Journey along the Continental Divide”. While leading their young children 3,100 miles across the Rocky Mountain wilderness on the backs of llamas, Cindy and her husband learned how experiences can generate extraordinary learning. They created a whole new way of nurturing and supplementing their children’s education, focusing on two major arenas for learning: The Natural World and Travel. They moved about largely by foot and bicycle, living simply and being exposed on an intimate level. But just as important, were the opportunities Cindy provided for learning closer to home. 

The result is Cindy’s 7th published book: The World is Our Classroom – How One Family Used Nature & Travel to Shape an Extraordinary Education. For 25 years, Cindy has been writing about outdoor adventure, experiential learning as well as lecturing on how to craft a life utilizing it. Richard Louv shares, ”Cindy Ross is one of today’s most eloquent and thoughtful writers on the connection between humans and the natural world.” Cindy has written over 1,000 magazine and newspaper stories focusing on outdoor adventures and travel, many as a family.
