Themes and activities are based on temporary and permanent exhibition topics, gallery discussions, and related Pennsylvania history. Each workshop is 5$ per participant. Parents are welcome to participate in the activities. Most lessons and activities are designed for students in elementary and middle school but some exceptions apply.
Quilting from the Early Settlers to Now
Tuesday, September 12, 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm
Come and learn about how quilting began among the early settlers and how it developed to the art form it is today. We will walk through the quilt exhibit on display now and do a quilt scavenger hunt. After the scavenger hunt, we will work on our own quilts! Snack included.
Schwenkfelder Voyage to America

The Schwenkfelders came to America in 1734 on the St. Andrew seeking freedom. We will discuss what made the Schwenkfelders leave their homeland to come to America. Come along for the journey and create your very own St. Andrew boat! For a snack we will have bread with apple butter just as the Schwenkfelders did two days after they landed, September 24, 1734, for their Thanksgiving meal.
Candle-making in Colonial America

Fall was the perfect time to stock up on candles before the long cold nights of winter came. Discover how the colonists made candles and all the work behind creating their important light source. You will make your own lantern to take home! Snack included.
Where do Jack O'Lanterns Come From?

Just in time for Halloween, we will discover why we carve and paint pumpkins every year during this time. Then we will make Jack O'Lanterns that will never go bad! Snack included.
The Poppy and the Symbol of Remembrance

Veteran's day is a time to remember those who fought for us, but when did the poppy become a symbol of remembrance? We will learn where this tradition came from and talk about the importance of remembering. Come and make a poppy photo frame to remember someone special in your life! Snack included.
Schwenkfelder Thanksgiving vs. National Thanksgiving
